The Generations Team Presents an Incredible Picture of Unity

GenerationsYMThe scene in a small, packed fellowship hall on the evening of July 7th was one to behold and leave you amazed. The roar of voices, clapping hands and stomping feet echoed through the Nkhoma valley in central Malawi and could be tracked to the Theological College dormitory where you could find 38 “Azungu” Americans and 41 Malawians lifting up the name of Jesus Christ in thunderous praise. The Generations team truly did paint a beautiful picture of unity–with the Malawians, certainly–but also with each other. There were plenty of differences that could have separated them: denominational differences, age differences (12-77 years old), ethnicity differences, and locations (west and east coast). However, they didn’t let any of that hinder them and instead stuck to the amazing things they had in common, like a joy for the Malawian people, shared experiences and unifying salvation in Jesus! It was AWESOME! They totally clicked together and thus, did remarkable work as one body that will resound throughout eternity!

Jesus could have prayed for many different things for his future followers in John 17—like great strategy, eloquent preaching, sacrificial hearts—but what does he pray for? “ ..that they may be ONE.” (John 17:21). Experiencing the unity, firsthand, that came in a team of 38 Americans and 41 Malawians made me proud to be part of Y-Malawi. We’re a “Star Wars Bar” cast of characters, but we’re having a lot of fun and it’s our differences that have allowed us to be so effective.
